Our clothes are designed to be worn wherever the fancy takes you – tweed that can take you from city pavement to hillside, shooting birds or maybe the breeze, fireside, at a festival at dawn, from safari in Africa to glamping in Wales. The Settlers Stores range of tweed clothing is designed with that outdoor lifestyle in mind – warm, waterproof, breathable but snug and stylish and all made here in the UK, using skills and crafts that have been honed for generations.
HISTORY
The original Settlers Stores were in Nanyuki, Kenya – the last stop for provisions before the Northern Frontier District and message post for all the outlying ranches, supplying the best samosas within 100 miles, kerosene, Omo, matches and cold Tusker beer – all the provisions one needs for a life on the road. We find our customers invest in our clothes because they know they’ll wear them for ever. Taking inspiration from many parts of the world we have adapted a Moroccan djellaba and a Kashmiri robe, a pheran, that we call a Battuta and have even reinterpreted the kilt.
ABOUT US
We are Nathalie Sergent and Zara d’Abo – we have both spent large parts of our lives travelling, both lived and worked for long periods in East Africa as fashion designer and TV producer respectively and have now settled in Frome, Somerset where we design the patterns and make the first samples in our collection. We then work with small workshops around the UK who make up our production.
